Jan Jerzy Haffner, a Napoleonic army physician, appreciating the beauty and therapeutic qualities of this seaside spot, decided to settle down in Sopot and set up a bathing centre, which over the following generations was turned into a world-famous spa. The spa in its present form is a natural continuation of the idea born a century ago. In the Southern Park strollers will come across picturesque fountains – ”mushrooms”, gushing out Sopot brine used for inhalations in chronic inflammatory and allergic diseases of the respiratory tract. Tourists can enjoy the bike trails and seaside alleys picturesquely surrounded by greenery and leading to the famous Sopot pier. The sheltered side streets, quiet spaces of charming fin de siecle apartment houses and villas surrounded by trees, historical parks and gardens and the quaint fishing harbour are an ideal place to calm your shattered nerves. more
